When can I enroll in a health insurance plan?
ACA marketplace open enrollment typically runs from November 1 to January 15 in most states. Outside that window, you need a qualifying life event — such as losing job coverage, marriage, a move or a new baby — to get a special enrollment period. Medicaid and CHIP enrollment is open year-round.
What is the difference between an HMO and a PPO?
An HMO requires you to use a specific network of doctors and get referrals from a primary care physician, in exchange for lower premiums. A PPO lets you see specialists without referrals and covers out-of-network care at a higher cost. PPO premiums are typically 20-40% higher than comparable HMO plans.
