Is travel insurance worth it?
For expensive, non-refundable trips — especially international travel or cruises — travel insurance is usually worth the 4-8% of trip cost it typically runs. It matters most for medical coverage abroad, since US health plans and Medicare generally do not cover treatment outside the country.
What does trip cancellation insurance cover?
Trip cancellation insurance reimburses prepaid, non-refundable trip costs when you cancel for a covered reason — illness, injury, a death in the family, severe weather or job loss. If you want the freedom to cancel for any reason at all, look for a Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) upgrade, which typically refunds 50-75% of trip costs.
